Team up to design a garbage truck on campus, make a car model by ourselves, write Oracle Bone Inscriptions and dance Oracle Bone Inscriptions with volunteers … Recently, SAIC Volkswagen’s "Stars Project" all the way "Children’s" charity activities joined hands with 15 media and employee volunteers to come to Anyang, Henan Province, the sixth stop, to visit No.4 Primary School in Dongzhuang Town, Neihuang County, Anyang City, and bring the latest STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) to children.
In addition, the volunteers also carried out a variety of outdoor activities with the children: everyone participated in Oracle Bone Inscriptions gymnastics and used body language to express the smooth stretching of Oracle Bone Inscriptions’s strokes; A friendship basketball game was also held between big friends and children to compete; After school, volunteers escorted the children home safely and completed the last guardian task of the day.
Dongzhuang Town No.4 Primary School is one of the first schools aided by SAIC Volkswagen in 2015. Today, the school not only inherits Oracle Bone Inscriptions’s precious culture, but also glows with new vitality under the inspiration of STEM science education.
Three people form a crowd and guard the way forward.

There are four words "SAIC Volkswagen" in this scroll. Can you find it?
Oracle Bone Inscriptions recorded the cultural history of the Yin and Shang Dynasties, which has been more than 3,000 years, and was not systematically excavated until the end of the Qing Dynasty. In order to protect this hard-won national treasure, "promoting education in Oracle Bone Inscriptions" has become one of Anyang’s cultural characteristics, and the educational methods are rich beyond imagination.
The fourth primary school has a special oracle calligraphy class to teach students to feel the subtlety of Oracle Bone Inscriptions’s strokes through writing. Although the writing tool has changed from tortoise shell to paper and pen, at the moment of writing, we can still feel the power of people recording knowledge and guarding wisdom flowing from the pen tip for thousands of years.
In class, volunteers and students jointly wrote the word "Zhong" by Oracle Bone Inscriptions, which vividly showed all the people living in the sun and moved forward together. However, in modern Chinese characters, the element of "three people" can still be seen. Whether it is Oracle Bone Inscriptions or modern Chinese characters, the word "Zhong" has entrusted a kind of reunion. It is like a family under the eaves, guarding the healthy growth of children; It is also like a group of people who are United in their efforts to protect the power of public welfare. Writing this word also echoes the belief of SAIC Volkswagen to protect people’s travel safety and "make the public more outstanding".
In addition, the volunteers started Oracle Bone Inscriptions Gymnastics with the children. As hieroglyphics, Oracle Bone Inscriptions’s strokes imitate the movements of the human body. This set of gymnastics is the result of interdisciplinary integration and innovation of ancient philology, music and sports. It vividly restores 19 Oracle Bone Inscriptions words through body language, which not only popularizes cultural knowledge, but also exercises the body. The mysterious Oracle Bone Inscriptions, once used for divination of fate, has turned into a set of childlike body-building gymnastics after thousands of years and spread among the people.

"Star Project" STEM Education Guarding Hope
During this visit, the volunteers brought brand-new stationery and school uniforms to the students, and also upgraded a brand-new classified trash can for the school, which solved the environmental problems. Taking this opportunity, the teacher also gave a STEM course for the children and designed the campus sorting garbage truck. This not only requires children to master the knowledge of garbage classification, but also to consider the load-bearing of garbage trucks by using mechanical principles. Inspired by the teacher, each group of children designed a unique garbage truck model, and everyone’s interesting concept explanation was even more eye-opening.
This summer, four children from the fourth primary school participated in the "Stars Project" science summer camp in Shanghai. The children are very excited. They actively participate in the science courses in the camp every day and boldly strive for the opportunity to discuss and speak. After a trip, the children’s expression ability has been greatly improved, and their personality has become more lively and cheerful.
In addition to students, teachers have also joined the training. In the past two years, five teachers from the fourth primary school participated in the three-phase training courses of STEM education in the "Stars Project" and systematically understood the teaching methods of science education. Now each class has two science courses every week, teachers’ teaching experience is gradually increasing, and children’s ability of hands-on experiment and thinking expression is also obviously improved. Some children who were always silent in the main class have found new interests in the science class and are willing to express their ideas voluntarily and boldly.
From building a car to helping travel to empowering rural education.

Volunteers escorted the children home safely.
From Oracle Bone Inscriptions thousands of years ago to the latest science education, what runs through it is people’s desire for knowledge and the protection of civilization. From building a car to helping travel to empowering rural education, what remains unchanged is the initial intention of SAIC Volkswagen to protect a happy life and assume social responsibility.
The "Star Project" was jointly initiated by SAIC Volkswagen and China Youth Development Foundation in 2015. Up to now, the project has donated more than 16 million yuan to help build 11 hope schools and improve their infrastructure. Every year, more than 1,000 teenagers benefit from this, with a total number of beneficiaries exceeding 21,000.
In recent years, the "Star Project" has been upgraded to version 2.0, focusing on STEM education. Through curriculum research and development, teacher capacity building, supporting activities and other measures, it has changed from hoping to upgrade the hardware of primary schools to helping to cultivate the soft power of rural education, and the value behind the birth of cars-scientific exploration and innovative spirit, will benefit children in the form of educational public welfare, helping children dream of sailing and dreaming of stars.
The STEM science course used in the visit takes into account the characteristics of rural education from the content, and starts with the grass and trees that children are familiar with, and launches the project design. Engineers from SAIC Volkswagen also participated in the curriculum development and contributed their scientific expertise.
In the future, the "Star Project" will be further upgraded, introducing humanities and ART education, increasing the dimension of ART, and turning STEM education into STEAM education. Let rural children know more about the beauty of their hometown, further cultivate their sentiments and increase their understanding of the world.
Since its launch in 2015, the "Star Project" has been carried out for nearly 10 years, and SAIC Volkswagen has also celebrated its 40th anniversary. Over the years, SAIC Volkswagen has practiced corporate social responsibility, continuously supported rural education and rural revitalization, and made rural children have a brighter future. In the future, SAIC Volkswagen will continue to broaden the field of public welfare, so that more people can feel the light of public welfare and make the public more outstanding together.
